The Vaults at Voltaire
London-City and East London
May 11, 2018
Despite its subterranean setting, this series of underground vaults near Blackfriars Station is incredibly high-tech; each of the nine individual vault spaces is strikingly decorated with digital wallpaper as well as its own iPod dock. The vaults each seat between two and eight people and are draped in plush fur throws in which to snuggle, making them ideal for a whole range of occasions – from dates to a big night out with friends. The main space to which the vaults are connected doubles as the bar for the Crown Plaza hotel above and is more conventional in appearance with large banquettes and a contemporary hotel bar vibe. The bar in the main serves champagne, with a range of famous brands available. Prices vary hugely so take care. Bottles start at just over £50 for non-vintage brut, but you can do some serious damage to your wallet if you’re so minded. There’s a solid range of champagnes available by the glass as well as some original cocktails which have been created in partnership with the Temple Spa skincare range and are very attractively presented, often coming with little ‘gifts’ of beauty products. There’s a cigar terrace so smokers aren’t left out in the cold and while the crowd, as you might expect, are composed in the main of City types, it’s far more atmospheric and inventive a space than your typical City watering hole.
