London-City and East London
May 11, 2018
The new bar at the historic Royal Exchange, once the centre of commerce for the City of London, is as luxurious and stylish as you’d expect given the location. With butter-soft tan leather bar stools and seating designed to make the most of its location overlooking the Royal Exchange’s Grand Café, it’s a handsome space. The cocktail menu includes a selection of ‘short & seductive’ drinks and a number of ‘long & seasonal’ drinks with a separate signature collection. This latter includes the Kaffir Collins, an aromatic blend of Beefeater 24 and kaffir lime leaves. The Fresco Fizz, a twist on the classic Gin Smash, uses vodka instead with nettle cordial and fresh mint. They also do classics like the Penicillin and the Corpse Reviver #2. There’s a well-composed wine list with plenty of fizz and a bar food menu that includes rock oyster tempura with Vietnamese dipping sauce, Aberdeen Angus sliders, truffled goat’s curd on sourdough, and an open sandwich of Cornish crab. There are antipasti platters to share. The grandeur of the surroundings can’t help but contribute to the atmosphere of the place.
