3 Bar @ South Place
May 11, 2018
South Place Hotel is the first accommodation-driven project from D&D London, whose portfolio encompasses what was the Conran group of bars and restaurants (Bluebird, Skylon and so on). Inside, there are three drinking spaces, including a first floor Garden Bar, lush and green, and a seventh floor roof terrace bar. Open from breakfast time until well past midnight, the ground floor restaurant (one of two), 3 South Place, has its own dedicated cocktail bar and plays host to DJs on weekends. It’s a fashionable venue, a diner-style space serving modern British food including a delicious chicken pie and rarebit soldiers on the bar menu in sleek surroundings. There’s a lot of gleaming glass, metal and white tile plus a striking central bar counter, laden with bottles. Cocktails include, From Russia With Love, a refreshing blend of gin, St Germain, rose liqueur and cucumber. Yum. There’s an excellent wine list, featuring a strong mix of old and new world wines; the service is as polished as the décor and the drinks are very well made too. Though it’s based in the heart of the City, the place doesn’t feel overly corporate or stuffy; on the contrary, it’s far more hip and chic than you might expect from a central London hotel.
