There was a time in the not too distant past when Mexican food in London meant a plate of greasy fajitas and a goblet-sized pre-mixed Margarita. That’s finally changing thanks to places like the Wahaca chain and this new venture from Will Ricker (the man behind E&O). The Serge Becker-designed space is split into areas, a ground floor ‘taqueria’ and a basement restaurant and cocktail lounge (which, amusingly, you enter via a ‘Sex Shop’ entrance on Old Compton Street). The drinks are the real deal – the Tamarind Margarita is particularly delicious – the food zingy, fresh and prepared with care, and the place exudes New York cool in both décor and atmosphere.
