Compagnie Des Vins Surnaturels
May 11, 2018
Tucked away in Neal’s Yard, an attractive little Covent Garden court which used to have a stydenty, vaguely alternative feel but is now being colonised by a new wave of bars and restaurants including Homeslice Pizza – Compagnie Des Vins Surnaturels arrives in London care of the team behind the Experimental Cocktail Club. Stocking some 400 original wines from across the globe, most of which are sourced from small producers, their list focuses on new and rising winemakers including many natural and biodynamic wines. Echoing Terroirs and Soif, but with a more Parisian feel (Gallic staff, the honeyed tones of Nina Simone), the two-level space also serves a food menu that’s been specially developed to accompany the intriguing and unusual wine on offer (rather than the other way around). The produce is British and sourced with as much care as the wine. Dishes include truffled ham with toasted sourdough and buttermilk fried frogs legs. The bar staff are more than happy to help you negotiate the often unfamiliar wines on offer and pick something to suit your tastes. Many of the bottles are available to buy from the adjoining shop and there are plans to hold regular tastings and events.
