Good Godfrey's in London
May 11, 2018
The Waldorf Hilton on Aldwych is trying to recapture something of its niche as one London’s grand dames. This is evident in this new lounge bar which boasts original wood panelling and art deco chandeliers; the bar itself is a shimmering slab of marble. Named after the Waldorf’s resident 1920s dance-band master, Howard Godfrey, the elegant space abounds with plush armchairs and exudes a classic atmosphere. The cocktail list includes some fittingly stylish tipples including the signature Waldorf-tini and the Astor Hip Flask, named for William Waldorf Astor. There’s a decent wine list ranging from the reasonable to the wallet-busting. Bar snacks are superior and it makes a superb spot to take afternoon tea.
