London Cocktail Club Oxford Circus
May 11, 2018
They’ve gone for an L.A. vibe at the newest outpost of the London Cocktail Club. The basement space is a little bit gangster, with graffiti-strewn walls and a long central bar.
What we love about the LCC are the details, the strawberry water and complimentary popcorn that find their way to your table when you arrive, the way each branch has a distinct personality and the quality and wit of the cocktails.
All the LCC favourites are present and correct the Bacon and Egg Martini, the Pornstar Martini with its little champagne chaser but while Goodge Street is Gin City and Shaftesbury Avenue is all about rum, this branch focuses on tequila drinks.
The Evidence Bag is a potent mix of tequila, mezcal and lime which arrives looking like something from CSI, while the Crystal Margarita is a refined, sweet-sharp take on a classic and a great drink for those unsure how they feel about Madam Tequila (she can be a difficult mistress).
We were also smitten with their take on the Old Fashioned. Snacks include fries and onion rings as well as hotdogs and various battered things. We enjoyed our crispy squid, but weren’t quite brave enough to try the fried mav’n’cheese.Next time.
The space formerly Flute Champagne bar, a short stumble from Oxford Street – is larger than the other LCCs and has a less charged atmosphere as a result, but we like the slightly different vibe.
There are some great happy hour deals and plans are afoot for a silent karaoke room. Staff were super-friendly, informative and happy to chat about the drinks. We will be back.
