Eccentric portrait photographer Cecil Beaton called the Oscar Wilde Bar, formerly the iconic Grill Room, the loveliest room in London and as loopy as he was, step inside this opulent shrine, with its frescoed ceilings, gilt-edged mirrors and lavish red drapes, and you kind of see his point. The prized address on Park Lane, and frequented over the year by the likes of Oscar Wilde, Liz Taylor, Winston Churchill and dozens of other literary, entertainment and political figures, take a seat at one of the tables, or order a martini by the bar and you are whisked back to the 1930s glory years. The great Café Royal alongside it is as splendid as ever, and the food and drinks have been spruced up recently as a younger crowd is once again returning it to its glory years. Cheers.
