For what is essentially a standard issue Mayfair pub, The Punch Bowl is a pretty popular place. This might have a teeny, tiny thing to do with its owner: a certain Guy Ritchie, the ex Mr Madonna. Despite the celebrity connections this is a fairly conventional boozer, albeit, a polished Mayfair affair. Inside it’s an attractive and welcoming space, with lots of dark wood panelling, cosy chairs, and separate areas for drinking and dining. And if you don’t feel like being in the public eye, they have a private dining room for lunch and dinner with its own small bar. They have a good range of beers, both bottled and on tap, and a fairly substantial wine list. The food is another plus, a big jump in quality above basic pub grub (though it doesn’t quite deserve the Mayfair prices). If you’re desperate to celeb-spot then you’d better go to Mahiki around the corner, if however you want a well-poured pint and a decent meal this is a place to put on your list.
