The Champagne Room
May 11, 2018
Nestled in the posh Connaught Hotel in the heart of London’s fashionable Mayfair, The Champagne Room gently glides guests away to another world, a place where luxury is on offer at every turn and price is no object in the pursuit of the perfect pour. The Champagne Room isn’t easily discovered as you need to specifically know where to look in the hotel to find it – either through a secretive staff pantry or at the end of a maze of hallways – but once you have gently pushed past its velvet curtains and found a space at one of the bar’s 25 seats (standing is strongly discouraged), you are richly rewarded. If the bar itself is a hidden gem, the drinks at The Champagne Room are jewels as they are all served in bespoke crystal Baccarat glasses. When deciding which cocktail to enjoy, make note that there is no menu at Champagne Room, the meticulous staff just simply makes up your request using their house stock of fine spirits. True to its name, it’s no surprise that bubbles are certainly one of the stars of the show with vintages and bottles that will satisfy the most discernible champagne aficionado. The number on offer tops three dozen, with six available by the glass, ranging from around £20 to upwards of £200. To match the sparkle of its drinks, the Champagne Room is home to soft leather banquettes, dark woods, flickering candles, and even an enchanting skylight with views to the Connaught’s lush courtyard.
