Hotel
The Luggage Room
London-Mayfair
May 11, 2018
Located in the old luggage room of the Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square, this elegant cocktail lounge is part-speakeasy (in so much as the entrance is hidden away and you’ll need to knock to gain entry), part stylish hotel bar.
The interior is incredibly attractive, all polished marble, cream walls, soft leather and dark wood with lots of nice art deco touches. The lighting is flatteringly low and the service attentive.
The dapper bartenders really know their stuff and the drinks list is incredibly comprehensive and includes a good many Prohibition era drinks (plenty of fizzes, cobblers, juleps and the like).
A welcome drink, a shot of house-made punch was fruity yet potent, and we liked their creamy, nutmeg laced Whisky Nog, the perfect drink on a chilly winter night; we also enjoyed a Pink Lady, a dangerously drinkable mix of No.3 Gin, Laird’s Applejack, egg white, house made grenadine, and lime juice.
Should you be peckish, they serve a short but appealing range of upmarket bar bites, including seafood salad with prawn crackers and basil flatbreads.
The clientele in the main is as smart and elegant as the space itself.
