Leafy Tufnell Park has a neighbourhood hangout to be proud of: underneath the green-and-white striped awning of a traditional grocery shop lurks a family-run restaurant with a warm, welcoming vibe. Inside, there’s an atmosphere of low-key comfort, featuring more green-and-white from the original period tiles and walls ringed with wine bottles. The food menu it houses has a traditional feel. High-end comfort food classics on offer include rib-eye steak with peppercorn sauce, gratin dauphinoise, and chocolate mousse. Korova takes its cocktails seriously, too. Don’t expect any gimmicky twists. Instead, the focus is firmly on classic, luxurious flavour blends. Their cocktail list is proudly headed up by an expertly mixed Negroni and a sophisticated Vesper Martini. For anyone in search of a little more frivolity, there’s a hot pink glamour to the Hibiscus Bellini, with a fragrant flower blooming at the base of the glass. And the Brandy Alexander mixes Martell with crème de cacao and fresh nutmeg for a refined but gently soothing nightcap. Korova is especially bustling at brunch time, thanks to its well-honed selection of omelettes, one-pan breakfasts, and eggs benedicts – all washed down with mimosas, naturally. But the simply-mixed classics that emerge from its stylish art deco cocktail bar makes it well worth a visit as dusk falls.
