Pisco is having a very welcome moment right now, what with Soho’s ceviche and the two branches of Lima kicking of a trend for all things Peruvian in the capital. This lively new Islington spot is not surprisingly, a shrine to all things Pisco. The drinks menu features12 signature cocktails all making use of the titular drink. The atmosphere is that of a smart lounge bar, with a stylish Latin vibe and a bit of a devilish streak; currently a members’ only hangout it’s worth finding your way onto a list so you can partake of their wares. They make their own house infusions and put contemporary twists on classic Peruvian drinks. We particularly like the sound of the Oso Paddington, which blends orange-infused pisco with cinnamon syrup, fresh orange juice and a touch of lime juice and the Pisco Embassy Punch, a simple but refreshing blend of pisco mixed with fresh pineapple juice and a touch of lemon. We’re also intrigued by the idea of the Chicha Sour, which mixes pisco with Peruvian purple corn syrup and lemon juice. The venue opens late and DJs play on weekend nights making this a very welcome addition to the evolving Upper Street scene.
