What do a traditional pub and a speakeasy cocktail bar have in common? Everything, according to Somers Town Coffee House, a comfy pub with a covert cocktail bar located in its basement. Situated in an oft-overlooked part of Euston, Somers Town Coffee House’s menus are as diverse as its interior – and that’s saying something, when the furniture is a mash-mash of comfy leather armchairs, beer keg bar stools and Union Jack-emblazoned sofas. Sunlight streams in through the pub’s large plate-glass windows, but even in winter, there’s solace to be found by the roaring fireplace.
Food consists of both a “tapas” menu of British-style small plates – pigs in blankets, baked Camembert, pork pie, cod fish fingers and more – and heartier, more filling main courses (the Beef Wellington and Slow Braised Chorizo and Butterbean Stew are firm favorites). There’s also brunch, and Sunday roasts, meaning that Somers Town Coffee House have every hunger pang catered for. When it comes to drinks in the main pub, there’s a quality lineup of cask ales always on tap, as well as glasses of wine, spirits and soft drinks. Down in the speakeasy bar, Somers Town Coffee House whips up both classic and unique cocktail combinations, offering their own take on the martini and the bloody mary, to name just two.
