The little sister of the popular Shoreditch Grind this hip little place on Beak Street is an espresso bar by day and a cocktail bar by night. Looking like a fairly standard Soho coffee spot, all white wood and tan leather, it also boasts a hidden bar speakeasy style bar down in the basement where you can get another kind of liquid kick. Look for the neon sign offering ‘French lessons’ (not always sensible advice in Soho) and you’ll find a white-tiled space with a New York vibe. If it’s anything like their east London branch their Espresso Martini will be a must-try. Their own blend coffee is properly mellow stuff and their baristas know their stuff. If coffee’s not your poison, the bar half of the operation also stocks a good array of prosecco, wine, and beer. Their new Soho cocktail list promises to be full of good things and they also offer a fantastic range of pastries (their almond croissants are the business) as well as soups, salads and other lunchy things if you’re hungry.
