London-South East London
May 11, 2018
Located in an unassuming corner of Southwark, Baltic occupies a converted coach house. Inside, the decor is fairly simple – bare white walls and a long bar, with a light and airy restaurant opening up behind the more moodily lit bar area. Baltic is the love child of Wodka, a swish Polish eaterie in Kensington, and vodka is also very much the thing here although cocktails are excellent too – top-notch, imaginative creations. If you decide to move on to the restaurant, you’ll find food that’s solidly eastern European but not stodgy. Blinis are a big deal and the hearty meaty mains keep the vodka from hitting you too hard in the head. The bar area can get pretty packed as evening progresses, so a long Sunday lunch soothed by live jazz, makes an agreeably popular alternative.
