Day Drinking
Talli Joe
London-South East London
May 11, 2018
We’ll forgive this Shaftesbury Avenue newcomer that awful pun. Talli Joe serves modern Indian dishes and drinks to a Covent Garden crowd. This casual, all-day bar and restaurant serves regional India-inspired cocktails, including a Masala Punch made with saffron-infused gin, and a Jaipur Fizz. Finished with prosecco The Keri Collins pairs vodka with mango puree, while the Holy Basil pairs whisky, basil and grapefruit. They also serve bottled cocktails called pauwas, including the Mumbai-inspired Queen’s Necklace Punch (that’s gin, cucumber and coriander – yum). These are designed to pair with specific bar snacks. The food menu includes half-plates for sharing, including spiced, fried whitebait, devilled quail eggs, crabmeat scotch eggs, banana blossom and black chickpea sliders and poached shrimp in an Indian tomato broth. The room is colourful, the atmosphere vibrant and now this place is open maybe the queues at Dishoom will finally get shorter.
