The Secret Garden
London-South East London
May 11, 2018
You would expect nothing less from such a modern, urban hotel as the South Place than to house a hidden cocktail bar that, in their own words, brings a slice of “Miami via Moorgate”. Close to London’s bustling central hub, the Secret Garden bar is exactly as its name suggests; a well-hidden outdoor lounge bedecked with exotic print cushions, potted palm trees and even waterfalls. The canopied terrace is temperature-controlled and covered during the winter months, but the retractable roof can be rolled back during the summer, so that guests can fully embrace the colorful Miami vibe.
The Secret Garden is usually only open to hotel guests and those on the members’ list of the hotel itself, but regularly hosts themed events for big-name brands (recent ones include a bee-and-honey themed affair for the Chelsea Flower Show, where guests were treated to unique honey-flavoured cocktails) which are open to the public. Aside from the tropical flair, the main draw of the bar is its cocktail list, consisting of many fanciful concoctions presented in delightful ways, along with the resident DJs spinning the newest tunes every Friday evening. There’s also an impressive champagne list (which includes a handful of rare labels) and a cigar menu – because this is an outdoor bar, after all.
