London-South East London
May 11, 2018
These days there are many reasons to pay a visit to Bermondsey Street the always excellent Zucca, Jose and Pizarro, new basement gin joint 214 Bermondsey and Village East has always been high on that list.
Housed in a former Victorian warehouse, the popular south London bar has recently been refurbished to feature more defined eating and drinking spaces. The cool New Yorky vibe remains intact, and the drinks are still some of the best in the area something reflected in the prices.
There’s a solid wine list and an impressive array of craft beers available too, but it’s the cocktails that give this place its edge. From a creative and contemporary list, you can choose from barrel-aged cocktails (of course) or drinks made with foraged ingredients and vegetal Iiqueurs we really like the sound of the Forager’s Sour, which pairs chestnut liqueur with bourbon, bitters and apple juice.
The seasonally changing food menu is also worth exploring if not quite so inventive and they do a nice line in head-clearing breakfast cocktails to wake you up (the Beetroot Mary sounds right up our street). As with all the more popular venues in this part of town, it can get pretty rammed on weekends so it may be worth your while to book ahead.
