Housed in a gorgeous old Georgian house incongruously situated on the eyesore that is the Vauxhall roundabout, this atmospheric bar is part of the LASSCO antiques emporium and is full of salvaged treasures and quirky design features, including vast mirrors, vintage lamps and signs, old fashioned clocks, chandeliers and other curios. Many of these are for sale so you can do a spot of shopping while you sip. The space is divided into two with a bar area up front and a dining room at the back, all marble columns and walls the colour of ivy. The whole place is hugely romantic, the coffee good and strong, the food creative and tasty, and the lighting low and sexy. They do a range of well made, potent classic cocktails including a refreshing rhubarb number and a punchy Blood and Sand. They also have Meantime Beer on tap and a great, thoughtful and interesting wine list. It’s a bit of a pain to get to, but well worth seeking out, there’s even a patio out front though we prefer it inside when you can shelter from the exhaust fumes and the rumble of passing traffic and feel transported to another, altogether more elegant time.
