Located a mere hop from Clapham Common, the stylish No32 The Old Town makes a very welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Inside it’s a handsome space, all very Farrow and Ball, all very Clapham, with long communal tables arranged downstairs for sitting and sipping as well as a big, busy open kitchen which serves superior pub grub. There are pretty tiled floor and red leather booth seating, period fireplaces and plush blue sofas on which one can recline with a glass of fizz. Attractive French windows open out on to the street for people watching and there’s a cool first-floor terrace area with views of the common. Prices are pitched at central London levels with draught beers coming in just south of a fiver; cocktails are available – Gin Cobbler, a classic Aperol Spritz or a gloriously summery Rhubarb & Apple Rum Punch – and while they’re not reinventing the wheel they do them well, though again they’re priced on the steep side. The food menu is well worth exploring, pub food but of a high standard, burgers, salads, and steak, alongside brunch and breakfast options. The club sandwich is a particularly good bet.
