Here’s another reason to head to Tooting (if the Tram Shed, Meza and Dosa’n’Chutney weren’t enough of a lure). A short stroll from Tooting Bec tube, on Trinity Road, this quirky new spot, with its Indian influence, has been opened by brothers Nicholas and Alastair Heathcote. They spent six years living in Pakistan and India and this has had a clear inspiration on the bar. Popular with local mums and freelancers during the day, drawn by the chai, the coffees and the superior pastries, by night it sheds the coffee shop vibe and becomes a more fully fledged bar. Cocktails include the Indian Summer – a vodka-licked mix of rose, apple juice, cranberry juice, raspberry, lime, cardamom and cloves. If you’re hungry they can order in from nearby The Cardamom Club, one for the more interesting local Indian restaurants. The owners are super-friendly and the furniture is full of character too, continuing the Indian theme without over-egging it. Keep an eye out for the Sunday Sessions when they have been known to offer £15 bottles of Prosecco.
