The fifth branch of the colourful café and bar chain makes a welcome addition to Battersea Rise’s increasingly varied roster of places to drink and eat. Once a fairly nondescript strip of chain restaurants the place has really blossomed in recent years. Taking over the site previously occupied by the late and not particularly lamented Le Bouchon Bordelais, The Breakfast Club shares a cheerful retro aesthetic with its siblings. Food-wise we’re talking all-day brunch options, artery furring milkshakes (their smoothies are excellent too) and a truly epic breakfast burrito. This new branch is particularly appealing, what with its kitsch laundrette vibe and its discreetly concealed cocktail bar, The King of Ladies Man, styled like a 1970s bachelor pad and serving what they term ‘disco drinks’ think Tequila Sunrises and Pina Coladas as well as a range of craft beers. The franchise has form in this regard, setting up hip drinking den The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town at their Shoreditch branch (a trendy basement bar accessed via a ‘fridge’ door) and the new venue promises to be something of a party spot. The name is a reference to the sitcom Cheers (we gather) and the spirit of Sam Malone promises to inspire both the atmosphere and the décor.
