The Pink Chihuahua

Below the Mexican restaurant, El Camion, and sandwiched between seedy sex shops of Soho, is The Pink Chihuahua. Overseen by industry legend and proclaimed ß-cocktail kingß-, Dick Bradsell, we knew the drinks here would be good, and the quality of the spirits impeccable. The Mexican theme from above seeps down and permeates The Pink Chihuahua’s colourful playful décor. Painted skeletons dance on the walls and jazzy, psychedelic murals make this basement vibrant and fun to dwell in, while the huge glass cabinet stretching across the wall beholding hundreds of bottles of different tequilas tells you that this is a place that clearly knows its stuff. It’s most definitely worth savouring a shot or two (in the interests of research, of course) to appreciate just how delicious and complex high-quality tequila truly is. No lemon and salt necessary here. The cocktails are split into Margaritas, Daiquiris, Batidas and Gringas. We highly recommend the Natural, one for the daiquiri purists: strong and refreshing, simple yet effective. Fine strained and served straight up, it includes only Havana Club, fresh lime and cane syrup. Similarly delicious is the Cadillac Margarita- Olmeca Altos tequila, lemon juice, triple sec and Grand Marnier make for strong, sharp citrus flavours with a warming and smooth aftertaste. To soak up the potent concoctions in authentic style, it’d be frankly foolish not to call upon El Camion above for its Mexican goods. The chicken enchilada is as vast as it is flavoursome and the nachos are coated in a whole host of delicious sauces and seasonings. This hidden haven boasts a wealth of quality and knowledge behind the spirits and cocktails on offer, it’s almost a shame it doesn’t stand alone in proud visibility. But the slight secrecy does add to the playful, insouciant vibe going on underground.
