This new venture from the team behind Village East is chic little oasis in a somewhat studenty part of Fitzrovia. The space itself is elegant if ever so slightly scruffy around the edges – in an intentional way – with its abundance of wood, comfy seats of baked bean-coloured leather and the occasional stuffed squirrel. Small plates are the order of the day here, dishes of squid with paprika, beetroot carpaccio or steak tartare, perfect for sharing and priced fairly at between £3 and £5 (though there are a few full size dishes if you’re ravenous). There’s a compact but decent wine list, again fairly priced, and an intriguing cocktail list featuring a Man Fire Margarita (whisky, mescal, honey and vanilla) and a divine strawberry and passion fruit champagne cocktail. Desserts are particularly well done – they give good cake – and the staff are smiley and enthusiastic.
