Dating back to 1888, The Ampersand in South Ken has been given a make-over. The new interior draws inspiration from London’s museum quarter and the design is replete with references to music, astronomy and botany. The hotel bar, Apero, can be found down in the vaults beneath the building, a surprisingly light and modern space given its location, with caramel leather banquettes and bold blue seats. It makes the perfect pre-dinner drink spot and the cocktail list is full of appealing things including Brown’s Rapture, an aromatic mix of gin, fino sherry and celery bitters. There’s a pleasingly wide selection of prosecco available too and the bar food list is certainly worth exploring.
