146 Paddington has recently emerged from the shadows of the bar once known as Steam, located at the Hilton by Paddington Station. But this railway-inspired bar breaks the mould as far as the stereotyped tired-looking station side bars go.

146 Paddington: “please look after this bar”

Re-energised by its latest remodelling and rebranding, 146 Paddington is confident enough to promote itself as a destination bar, not simply just a place for travellers to catch a quick drink. The locomotive theme is played upon to good effect but is not over the top. The bar is contemporary yet pays homage to the vintage – a grand piano here and a stack of suitcases there are nods to the history of the place. Yet, the cool clean lines of the gleaming bar, the modern, comfortable seating and bright lighting ensure that 146 Paddington attracts not just tourists but locals for after-work drinks and food.

The bar boasts an impressive drinks menu, offering a choice of gin-based and travel inspired cocktails in its Gin Journey selection. Their Monkey 47, a twist on a Bramble is a particular favourite. The choice is further expanded by an innovative cocktail menu, complete with travel-based quotes from literature for those who enjoy some culture on the side of their tipple. Seasonal additions and changes to their drinks selection are frequent. For food options, a good choice is the chicken quesadilla, which really hits the spot, or asharing platterfor the ravenous. The ubiquitous afternoon tea has also now become a thing at 146 Paddington, and they do it well.

With surprisingly good DJ sets, an easy on the eye refurb and spot-on street food, this place may well live up to itsdestination bar assertions. For a buzzy and busy atmosphere, meet with the workers from 5pm onwards.
