Covell

Bar Covell is one of best wine bars in Los Angeles, no question. Obviously they know a huge amount about the grape and stock a varied and wonderful wine, that’s kind of a given. But it’s all the other things that lift this place to the top of the pile. For one, it’s a handsome, atmospheric space, all low-lit brick and chalkboards displaying their wines by the glass. A vintage motorbicycle hangs from one wall and there’s a cute and charming display of antique Box Brownie cameras on another but otherwise the décor is simple and tasteful, the wine very much the star of the show. The serve an array of nibbles to pair with your wine, including a cheese plate, which according to the Amateur Gourmet’s Adam Roberts ß-pretty much puts all other cheese plates to shame.ß- The bar stocks small production, old-world and new-world selections from around the globe, some obscure, some less so. There’s no printed list so your best bet is to head to the bar and talk through your preferences with the guys who work there. The staff are really passionate about wine and it shows in the clientele – the place is a something of a beacon to serious wine buffs as well as attracting a good mix of the city’s young professionals.
