There’s something rather delicious about sipping a pre dinner drink as piano music sparkles in the background. It speaks of sharp suits and cocktail rings; a past age. You half expect to see Don Draper stride into the room looking exceptionally dapper, hat in hand. This is exactly the kind of atmosphere created by the Beverly Hills branch of Mastro’s, a sophisticated steakhouse and lounge bar located a short stroll away from Spago’s. The decor, with its walnut furniture and over-stuffed chairs, speaks of privilege. A curling staircase completes the feel: ideal for making an entrance. The food is excellent, huge slabs of impeccably cooked meat. Prices are steep but portions are substantial and there’s impressive wine. After your meal you can drift back upstairs for a night cap and another burst of piano before heading into the night.
