Musso and Frank Grill
May 11, 2018
Musso and Frank is legendary in every sense. Dating from 1919, this is Hollywood’s oldest restaurant and a better example of a classic American grill room you couldn’t hope to find. The ceilings are oak-beamed and the booths are red leather; the waiters are smartly-jacked and somewhat stern. The cocktails are crisp as they come and you’ll struggle to find a more perfect martini in the city. Their Bloody Marys are textbook things and food menu is also seriously good, featuring steak, lobster, spring lamb and other hearty fare. The place exudes a certain kind of old Hollywood cool and you can practically taste the history of the place. Charlie Chaplin was a regular, as was Chandler, Faulkner and Hemingway (no surprise there really). Orson Welles was known to drop by and even today it’s easy to see the restaurant’s appeal to such men of appetite.
