If you really want to experience all Hollywood is, was and could be you need to pay a visit to the iconic Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, a favourite among the industry’s dealmakers. Since 1941 the bar has played host to every Hollywood player of note and is rich with history as a result. The bar tenders serve a crisp, unsullied martini and they stock a good range spirits and wines plus plenty of fizz for those green light moments. The (not spectacular given the price) food caters for Californian tastes but doesn’t neglect the classics and they do a pretty decent steak tartare but then the food is not really the reason people come. For those in the know, the sun-flooded patio is the only place to be, but a reservation is vital to secure a table there. Service is impeccable, regardless of who you are (or aren’t).
