Sleek black leather banquettes, exposed brickwork and contemporary lighting all add a sultry and sophisticated air to The Normandie Club, housed with the Hotel Normandie in Los Angeles’ Koreatown district. Proving that hotel bars can offer more than just an after dinner nightcap, The Normandie Club prides itself on its on-point mixology skills and atmosphere reminiscent of a secret speakeasy. The cocktail menu offers contemporary twists on old classics – the Daiquiri is blended with French peach liqueur while the Old Fashioned is muddled with coconut bourbon and spiced almond sugar – and although the wine and beer lists are small, they are hand-picked to provide the perfect selection for every taste. The Normandie Club’s menu changes regularly, so there’s no fear of getting stuck in a rut with your order. Also somewhat unusually, the bar boasts a high-tech seltzer system to add an extra fizz to their signature drinks and the spirit selection behind the bar will have even the most steadfast of drinkers in a tizzy about what to sample next. Whiskey lovers will especially be in their element, with an impressive selection of aged brandies and cognacs (the eight-year-old apple brandy is a particular favorite) and if you’re lucky, you may even get to sample some Asian-style street food at one of the bar’s regular pop-ups featuring local vendors.
