Ramses Life And Food
May 11, 2018
Opened in 2007, the Philippe Starck-designed Ramses is part restaurant, part club, and part cocktail bar. A favourite of the design-minded, it’s spread over three floors, with a bar on the ground floor and a nightclub in the basement. It’s a visually striking, dramatic space, full of silver candlesticks, throne-like chairs fashioned along familiar Starckian lines and cool contemporary chandeliers. There are graffiti-covered walls and indeed ceilings, giving you something to read as you wait for your cocktail to be mixed. The cosmos are well-made and the two dining spaces serve elegant Asian-influence cuisine, sashimi platters and black cod served with cauliflower mash. The washrooms too are worth a mention, featuring some of Starck’s most inventive design flourishes.
