This hip Northern Quarter bar a sibling to the popular Port Street Beer House has a deserved reputation as one of Manchester’s cooler drinking spots. Recently, they’ve expanded, opening a second bar, the Kestrel Suite, in the back room which tends to be less crowded than the main bar in the evenings (and is available for private hire). The crowd is of the fashionably-clad, iPad-toting variety and the walls do double duty as a gallery for local artists. They do a decent range of cocktails, all prepared with care, including a tasty Breakfast Martini, which blends gin and Cointreau with a good helping of marmalade and lemon juice, and a warming, wintery Maple Syrup Manhattan. They do an ace Margarita and are particularly strong on the beer front, stocking a wide array of draught and cask ales, including regular guest brews, as well an intriguing range of bottled beers. Their food offerings, while not astonishing, are far more than an afterthought and they do an excellent burger. Their frequent DJ nights get people in the mood of the weekends in style.
