Hula

The Hula Tiki Lounge aims to recreate a slice of 1950s Americana in a Manchester basement and it just about succeeds. It’s a lively, colourful space, tailor-made for the quaffing of equally colourful rum-based cocktails. The interior has an urban beach hut vibe, kitsch but not excessively so. From the extensive cocktail menu, The Planet of the Apes is a decadent dessert-like mix of white chocolate, banana and vanilla rum, or, if you go in a group you could try the Powder Keg, a cask of rum and fruit designed for sharing. Hula may not be the most stylish joint around, but its bright and friendly and, most importantly, its great fun.
