The Deaf Institute
May 11, 2018
Housed in a grade II listed building, Manchester’s former Adult Deaf and Dumb Institute hence the name this self-styled cafe-bar and music hall is located right in the heart of the city’s university district. Part of a local franchise, Trof, who own other popular bars in the Northern Quarter and Fallowfield, the venue is spread over three floors with bars on each level. It’s the top floor bar that really makes this place. Decked out in red and black with light flooding through the skylight, the bar has carved out a reputation as one of the city’s best live music venues and it’s in this space you’ll see a wide range of up-and-coming acts. The vibe is hip, but in an agreeably laid-back, relaxed kind of way and the bar stocks a superb range of bottled beers.
