Under New Management

Under New Management – the space formerly known as Corridor – is hidden away down a back alley in Salford. It’s properly elusive, a bit of a nightmare to find (and kind of worrying-looking when you do find it), but it’s well worth searching out. Inside it’s a cool in spot, albeit on the small side, with a stylish back room and a semi-retro vibe. The limited cocktail menu contains just fifteen drinks, all reasonably priced at £7.50. The Hot Rod, which comes topped not with a paper umbrella but a wee toy motor, blends sweet bourbon, cherry, vanilla and lemon while the Cuckoo Clock, a mix of gin, lemon, egg white and orange bitters, ticks our boxes. There’s a superior beer selection too, including the ubiquitous Brooklyn, Sam Adams, and Goose Island, a craft brew from Chicago. The décor is pretty basic – serviceable is probably the word – but the atmosphere is great, the bartenders passionate about what they do and they mix a mean drink.
