The one thing the legendary La Mamounia Hotel is not good at is being bad. Beloved of Winston Church, to whom it was loveliest spot in the whole world, it has long been the destination of choice to the international jet set. And with its charming gardens, unforgettable decor, part Moorish, part Art Deco, it’s easy to see why. It’s also blessed with some excellent bars, not least of which is the Le Bat Marocain. Located on the top floor near the restaurant of the same name, its chief boast is its stunning views of the garden and beyond the Atlas mountains. Coming a close second is its ravishing Moorish decor. One thinks of its red lamps, elaborate fretwork, exquisite tiled pillars, horseshoe arches and salmon sofas. And where better to sip one of their divine saffron-infused vodkas than here amid all this finery? How civilised! Well, that’s La Mamounia for you.
