A bar whose interior is designed to resemble an eclectic New York City apartment, 29th Apartment strikes a fun and quirky chord in Melbourne’s St. Kilda area. When 29th Apartment said their bar is meant to resemble a lived-in NYC apartment, they really meant it, as the bar is sectioned off into a ‘bedroom’, ‘television room’ and ‘games room’ among many others. If you feel like you have been there before when you enter the door, it’s because you have; 29th Apartment is pretty much the same set up that your best friend had in their first apartment – you know, the one where you threw all the parties? A hodgepodge collection of posters, milk crate chairs, bean bags, and most importantly board games like giant Jenga are scattered about the rooms, and the never-ending house party proceeds from there. The drink list at 28th Apartment is long on fun featuring jugs of Sangria and Pimms but gets serious when it comes to specialty cocktails like the Hot Tamale with chili pepper infused tequila, lemongrass, lime, and ginger and the monstrous Hudson River Beast made with dark rum, squid ink, lemon juice, and orange liqueur. Fun is without a doubt the name of the game here as seemingly each night of the week is home to a different drink special or themed frolic that you don’t have to stick around to clean up for the next day.
