Jazz & Blues

Melbourne’s award-winning Golden Monkey – it’s been voted Bartender Magazine’s bar of the year several times over – is inspired by the opium dens of 1920s Shanghai. The decor reflects this with Chinese-style furniture and soft low lighting making this a very atmospheric space. The cocktails are well-crafted and inventive (try the Chilli Chocolate Concubine or the Dragon Egg for evidence of this). The Asian finger food is equally delectable, tasty small plates for sharing. This is an evocative, exciting bar; one of Melbourne’s best. Tuesdays are Opium Jazz nights, ideal for unwinding, while the place gets livelier as the weekend draws near.
