Perched a few floors up above a generic noodle shop, Goldilocks is a quirky, stylish space with a fairy-tale theme that stays just the right side of twee. The cocktail list is short but sweet (and savoury), featuring around six frequently rotating, creative drinks served by smart, informed staff. Many of the infusions are made in-house and include unusual and inventive flavour pairings and ingredients: a dash of capsicum, a stirring of strawberry jam (not in the same drink, mind). The Drunken Chicken Sazerac blends brandy with Peychaud’s Bitters, and chicken fat-washed ginger syrup while rum is blended with coconut, chocolate and the aforementioned jam in the Lamington Flip No 2 The nursery rhyme theming is also in evidence in a playful food menu which includes ‘three little pig’ pork belly sliders and Miss Muffet’s cheese curds, as well as chef Katie Marron’s popular and acclaimed fried chicken. The room is warm and cosy, slightly library-like with its Turkey carpets, dark wooden booths, cosy book-lined nooks and forest-patterned wallpaper, with a cute trio of wooden bear-heads looking balefully down on you as you sip your drink. We’d be tempted to pronounce it ‘just right’ had they not already beat us to the punch.
