Jane Doe
Melbourne-City-Center

Jane Doe’s name may make the bar sound like it’s destined to be an anonymous address, but in reality, you’ll have a hard time forgetting the venue’s special combination of cocktails and atmosphere. One of the latest editions to Melbourne’s always-happening Chapel Street, Jane Doe is home to an eclectic yet homey design. The funky decor starts with a picket fence out front painted white (Jane Doe’s home, perhaps?), and continues as you enter the bar and are surrounded by an array of mustard yellow, pea green, and ruby red vintage furniture. The chairs and couches are as comfortable as they are cool and reside under a set of glowing antique tulip light shades and swaying velvet drapes. As impressive as the aesthetics are, it’s the drinks that you’ve come for, and the offerings don’t disappoint. Leading the way in the ‘cocktails on tap’ wave, Jane Doe always offers a few crisp and cold mixes on draught (think espresso martinis and old fashioneds) in addition to a rotating cocktail list full of fun twists and turns. Recent examples include the smooth and silky Red Velvet Cocktail, a tart mezcal tipple (mixing the Mexican spirit with Italian aperitif, rhubarb bitters, and grapefruit juice), and a luxurious take on the Long Island Iced Tea garnished with smoky burnt citrus. Craft beer lovers are also well looked after, and Jane Doe’s daily five hour happy hour is fast on its way to becoming a Melbourne legend.
