The name, if you were wondering, is that of one of Melbourne’s most famous ladies of the night. And the bar that bears it is something special. It bills itself as ‘a rather fancy terrace and public house’ – what this means is an indoors astro-turfed space with staff in tennis whites and, as promised, a rather lovely terrace (home to Sunday barbacue parties). The cocktails are crisp and refreshing. Pimms or a chilled rose go down a treat in these surroundings. The crowd are sometimes eccentric crowd, but always fun. So break out your twin-set and pearls, Madame Brussels is waiting.
