One of the original laneway bars, Meyers Place remains a popular spot. The narrow, cosy room has been simply but cleverly decked out with by the renowned Six Degrees with salvaged timber on the walls in fact most of the décor has been reused or recycled in some way: the ceiling has the look of old floorboards and there are bits from Melbourne Town Hall in there too. There’s a dominant concrete bar and one wall is redecorated by a different local artist each month. On Friday nights this friendly, atmospheric hole-in-the-wall gets pretty much packed to capacity and it can be difficult to squeeze in. Though small, this bar can justifiably be charged with changing the face of Melbourne’s bar scene.
