From the chaps behind the Grace Darling Hotel, this deliberately hard-to-find basement space ticks all the boxes. It’s aesthetically pleasing, with a post-industrial vibe: a sleek, curved bar, bespoke light fittings, a faint air of the factory tempered by striking plant ‘installations’.The drinks list has not been neglected and there half a dozen microbrews to sample, alongside local wines. Their signature cocktail, the Strange Mule, comes with a kick, courtesy of chili vodka and ginger beer mixed with a splash of passionfruit. To accompany your drinks, there’s a good selection of nibbles and, if the mood takes you, you can join the throng on the dance floor later in the evening.
