The Raleigh’s legendary Martini Bar has played host to a galaxy of celebrities in the 70 years it has been open and boasts an enviable archive of drink recipes. The sense of Old World glamour that drifts languidly throughout the stylish Art Deco hotel is at its height here. With an intimate eight‐seat mahogany bar and terrazzo flooring, the space has been lovingly preserved to maintain its 1940s feel, making it a classy but relaxed place to retreat from the hectic pace of South Beach with a perfectly crafted cocktail in hand. The classic martini is a speciality, naturally, but the finely tuned cocktail list includes other delights too, such as The Candidate ‐ Chivas 12yr, canton ginger, lemon and simple syrup, and The Martinez, which is thought to be the father of the classic martini. There’s a choice selection of upmarket bar snacks too, but the focus is on the drinks. True aficionados can even play a part in curating the drinks menu at the bar’s monthly Cocktail Shake Off. Held on the first Friday of every month, the event offers complimentary tasters for guests to choose between four different hand‐crafted cocktails. The winning recipe is featured as Cocktail of the Month at all Raleigh venues.
