This place is exactly what you’d want and hope from a bar situated amid the dizzying glitz of Monaco, with its harbour full of mega-yachts, its casino and its grand palace. Le Crystal is an elegant Champagne boite housed inside the opulent, century-old Hotel Hermitage. The room is highly attractive, neoclassical in design with a gleaming mirrored bar, fawn-colored leather armchairs, tall white vases, glinting chandeliers – and, of course, a lot of crystal. It’s the perfect place in which to recline with a glass of fine Champagne and a few dainty things on which to nibble. Try the barbajuan, a kind of spinach-stuffed fried ravioli, which is Monaco’s signature dish. They also serve oysters and caviar as well as beautiful Laduree macaroons and têtes de cuvées champagnes by the glass. The terrace is gorgeous too with a beautiful view of that harbour and the bay beyond. You’ll want to dress for the occasion.
