Located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, Alexandre Gosselin’s eclectic restaurant is popular with good reason, not the least for its vibrant bar, a favourite spot in its own right. With its long central table, and dark wood and white walls, this place is stylish in an understated way. The menu is French-inspired, offering creative plates with an eco-leaning, the focus very much on top quality local produce and seasonal fare. Dishes that might cross your plate include venison tartare with ‘honey fungus’ (No, we’re not sure either), oyster escabèche, roasted cauliflower with truffle, foie gras terrine with maple syrup and kumpquat, halibut ashimi with apple and avocado, scallops with sweetbreads, and a house-made smoked meat burger that’s out of this world. There are oysters and house-made charcuterie too. There’s some serious skill in the kitchen and the wine list is a thing of intelligence and beauty too. Service is knowledgeable and efficient and the atmosphere is convivial and inviting, making this a cut above the usual neighbourhood bistro. Photo credit – https://www.facebook.com/chezvictoire
