When part of the Red October Chocolate Factory was converted into the Strelka Institute, this funky bar became its in-house hang-out, a place for ideas to be exchanged, talk to be talked and drinks to be drunk. It’s a stylish space with a very swish, almost Art Deco interior incorporating elements of Italian and Scandinavian design from the 1960s and ‘70s, just the kind of place for talking about art, life, the universe and everything. During the day it’s a great spot for cultural conversation and coffee, but the music gets louder as the evening progresses and the mood gets livelier too. Drinks cost a little extra if you want to have them out in the terrace area, but it is worth paying that little bit more as the bar boasts some sensational views across the Moscow River. From their cocktail list, a Strelka Lemonade blends fruit vodka, grapefruit, Maraschino and Perrier, while the Moscow Beauty is a fruity combination of fresh strawberry, cranberry, vodka and a splash of Sprite. There’s a decent wine list and some excellent food available. On weekends the bar plays host to DJ sets and live music.
