A classic hotel bar located on the lobby level the Taj Mahal Masingh hotel with a playful, modern feel, Rick’s has been pouring classic cocktails and fine Scotch for visiting business people and posh locals for several years now. At one time it was the only real action in the area, but in the past few years more bars have popped up, making this spot now a starting point for a night of bar crawling. Comfy occasional chairs upholstered in colorful damask, and extra-long sofas under a massive recessed faux skylight give the air of relaxing at an eccentric coastal salon. Live music, ranging from electronica jazz to classics and house, spice the space up on weekends and well-made cocktails—from Singapore Slings and Hemingway Daiquiris to various “Tinis”—are the libations of choice, along with an expertly curated old and rare single malt Scotch selection. A brief selection of signature cocktails featuring fresh ingredient and house-made syrups and infusions might include the Abakashi (cachaça, pineapple, pear purée, lime juice, pistachio syrup and basil). A large-ish menu highlights Southeast and South Asian cuisine and is both tasty and elegantly plated. The menu also features a number of alcohol-free mocktail options, also well made.
